The Story So Far

On the spring equinox of the year 1141 an assassination was carried out against the head of the Tundrikhan military. The city of Askr was sent into chaos, many called for war against Adal immediately, and others rushed to markets to hoard food. Amongst the chaos, three brave souls stepped forward and proved that they could be trusted to find the culprit. Jasper, the young tabaxi boy who cunningly stopped the culprit associate, Aera who found the assassin, and Hallyr the medic who proved to be pure of heart. All evidence at the scene proved to be too little, the assassin killed himself too swiftly and the associate they caught was only hired as a distraction and had no useful information. The greatest clue they were left with was a poisoned dagger that dripped with magic.

Hired by the Council of Askr to track this magic the group was given an associate from the council, Pekka Ragnulf. Upon examination, the group was able to track the magic to the edge of the ringed forest, an evershifting magical place with no shortage of dangers. There the group faced massive wild lynxes, odd scaled creatures called pholifrosts, and odd magical effects that plagued their dreams. After weeks of mental torment, the group stumbled into the center of the forest. Resting at the center was a giant elk, ancient and overgrown with moss and foliage this elk spoke to them all as a friend. Its eyes had been gouged out and from its face leaked a green blood, the poison used on the dagger. The group pleaded with the elk to tell them who did this but the elk had no real answers to give. They were ambushed and had their eyes taken, now they sit in their home awaiting Askerah’s reward, death. As the elk turned to rest once more it leaned down to Hallyr and told them a riddle and also called Hallyr an odd name, the elk called him a Child of the Light.

Seemingly done speaking the group turned back, more confused than ever before, as they traveled they ran the riddle through their minds. Soon they realized, the elk was speaking of the elves, a mystical species no one had seen in years. Now with more of a lead, they had a real reason to keep going. However, Hallyr was left to ponder the odd title he was given.

Not without trouble the group acquired an elusive map to the elven sanctum in the Stokkren mountains. After nearly a month of perilous journey, the group found Svafnir. Expecting peaceful and benevolent elves the group is caught off-guard as they are captured for a ‘ritual’. The elves describe them as chosen Children of the Light, determined to understand what this means Hallyr convinces the group to go along with it for now. As the ritual begins the group is shocked to find Klara, Leif, and Ikki are also trapped in the elven sanctum. The ritual is held, where all the ‘Children of the Light’ have their power focused onto a plinth that then creates a new Child of the Light, at least according to the elves. The ritual fails and the young elf child they had as an offering is corrupted and transformed into a twisting monster of roots. The group manages to break free and put the creature out of its misery but not before the foundations of the city of Svafnir are destroyed. The group flees the city as it topples, killing thousands of elves. Some escape and flee into the mountains but the once secure stronghold is no more.

Now the group of adventurers is plagued by their decisions and filled with fear, they still do not know what it means for some of them to be Children of the Light and what it means to be connected to it. The threat of war still looms over them. The only lead they have for now is that a map was shown in the stars during the ritual and they hope to find whatever it is that it points towards.
